About COEDMM IITR
IITR has provided impetus to consolidate, augment and strengthen the facilities for research and extension work in the area of natural disasters. The COE has initiated multidisciplinary studies and help in creation of a national database for rapid dissemination of technical know-how. The centre proposes to run specialized short term courses and research programs in the relevant areas of natural disasters to meet the national needs with regard to mitigation & management of these disasters.
- Up gradation and augmentation of facilities in the area of Disaster Mitigation R&D and extension activities to provide engineering solutions in the area of Disaster Mitigation Human Resource Development.
- Creation of a National Database for rapid dissemination of information and knowledge
- Establish linkages with other organizations
The centre of Excellence has specialized facilities to provide solutions to a large numbers of problems related to mitigation of disasters due to earthquakes, wind storms, floods and landslides.
DISASTER MITIGATION ENGINEER'S MANDATE
- Minimize damage and ensure safety of structures during an hazardous event.
- Strengthen or rebuilt the damaged structures and infrastructures after the event.
